The Artist Statement

The artist arranging flowers on a backdrop into a floral flatlay. Behind the schenes photo on set in a photography studio.

I’m a middle-aged woman trying to figure out who I’ve become after seven years as a stay-at-home mother.

I lost touch with my sense of self in the daily tasks I did on autopilot running our home. I had no time to exist as just myself, and I couldn’t remember what made me a unique person anymore.

I believe that artwork is a mirror. I started creating floral flatlays as a way to reconnect with the person I was before motherhood, but I ended up seeing glimpses of the person I am today reflected back.

Another Me Emerges pieces together the woman I’ve become in my forties. Each flatlay embodies a different side of who I am. Together they're all me, and still not the whole picture. This series is ongoing as I continue to discover who I’m becoming.

These floral flatlays are for the woman rediscovering who she's become after motherhood changed everything. I want her to find a part of herself reflected in this collection.

Why Flowers?

I chose flowers because they’re exactly what they seem. They’re beautiful just as they are, without the need for trick lighting or fancy filters. They show up honestly, and that’s how I want to show up too.
